7 December 2010, Milan – Invista says that two courts in
Italy have recently ruled against the import of garments that misuse its Lycra brand.
The criminal Court of Taranto ruled against the import of
counterfeit hosiery bearing the Lycra fibre brand, a trademark owned by global
fibre manufacturer Invista and a judge in the Court of Como recently ruled
against the import of counterfeit goods bearing the Lycra fibre brand.
The first case concerned a shipment of more than 167,000
pieces of hosiery, originating in China and destined for Sicily. The second
case concerned a shipment of 155 parcels of women’s shirts, originated in the
United Kingdom and destined for Prato.
Customs officials, as part of a customs monitoring program, detained
both shipments and notified Invista for brand authenticity verification.
Max Wiesendanger, Executive Vice President for Invista’s apparel
business in Europe and South Asia said: “Invista takes trademark infringement
very seriously and we will continue taking actions to prevent illegal
production, distribution and trading on our brand name”.
“The Lycra fibre
brand name communicates quality, performance and innovation. Our customers expect us to protect the value
that the Lycra fibre brand provides to them in products such as hosiery and
women’s apparel,” Wiesendanger added.
