Italian hosiery knitting machine builder Busi Giovanni has announced that its new model Twin Layer has recently been granted the European patent, due to its unique technology.

Busi Twin Layer is a high production single cylinder sock machine with latch needles in the dial that enable it producing technical sport socks with twin fabric. The machine derives from the model Busi Idea Terry and it has all the same features and knitting possibilities of this model.

The machine is provided with a patented device that uses the dial needle for the production of an internal layer and the cylinder needles for the production of the external layer, the company reports.

Characteristics

The two fabrics that form the sock are knitted contemporarily and can be joined at whish, they merge in one only fabric at the welt at the heel and at the toe of the sock. This way the two fabrics cannot slide one onto the other, according to the manufacturer.

The above feature, in addition to the fact that the two fabrics can be knitted using different fibres and that the machine is provided with a device for the selected terry, is said to offer the possibility to produce technical socks with unique textile features.

This, as well as the possibility to have the double layer in only certain parts of the sock (only foot or only sole), will offer to the users the possibility to produce highly innovative products. In case of patterned socks, the yarn ends that normally are inside the sock will be packed in between the two layers thus ensuring a better comfort.

Advantages

The two fabrics are knitted at the same time and not in sequence, thus saving 50% of the knitting time, the company reports. They are joined at the welt, at the heel and at the toe of the sock, thus avoiding the possibility for the internal layer to slip onto the external layer.

Another interesting possibility of the Twin Layer machine is the production of football sock having a pouch in the inside to host the shin guard. The terry device enables the machine knitting the sandwich terry and the normal terry even in the same sock without any mechanical change. The change from plain stitch to half terry and full terry is completely automatic.
