The common exhibition area created by the Italian Trade Agency for the promotion and internationalization of Italian businesses abroad, and ACIMIT, the Association of Italian Textile Machinery Manufacturers, will allow visitors from all over South America to verify and appreciate the excellence of the Italian technology on show.

Among the Italian companies exhibiting at the Punto Italia of ACIMIT- Italian Trade Agency, the ACIMIT members are: A. Piovan, Carù, Cubotex, Fadis, Ferraro, Itema, Mactec, Mcs, Noseda, Otlas, Prochimica, Ratti, Reggiani, Simet, Temat, Textape, Rollmac, and more.

Focus on local market

The strong Italian presence at Colombiatex confirms the attention Italy’s textile machinery manufacturers place on the local market, and this trade fair event in particular, ACIMIT reports.

“In recent years, Colombia has become one of the main fashion centres on the continent. The sector stands out for its quality creations and innovation, especially in terms of design and materials used,” explained Raffaella Carabelli, ACIMIT President. “Colombiatex is therefore a benchmark trade fair in South America for the textile and textile machinery industry, and I’m convinced that it will represent an important window for Italian technology this year too.”

ACIMIT represents an industrial sector that consists of around 300 companies, which employ roughly 12,000 people, and manufacture machinery for an overall worth of about EUR 2.5 billion, of which 84% are exported.

Colombia’s textile industry

Colombia’s textile industry is among the most significant and experimental in South America. Thanks to the numerous trade agreements signed with different countries, in particular with the EU and the US, locally manufactured products have been able to penetrate important markets.

However, in order to further develop local excellence and in the meantime react to competition in the domestic market from imported products, the Colombian textile and garments sector must further increase the quality and level of technology employed.

Within this context, the possibilities for market penetration for Italian textile machinery have grown, ACIMIT reports. Since 2010, Italian sales in Colombia have recorded progressive growth, reaching around EUR 12 million in 2014, a 12% increase compared to the previous year. For the first half of 2015, Italian exports to Colombia amounted EUR 4 million.
