Santini, a leading Bergamo, Italy based producer of technical cycling sportswear, has launched a new exclusive range of socks called Mirai which are produced with Filature Miroglio's Newlife eco-high tech yarns.

Santini says this is an exclusive and cutting edge project that combines stylish design and the Newlife revolutionary recycled material to create a high quality, eco-friendly product.

Newlife is the product of an ambitious project developed by Filature Miroglio involving a certified system of recycled polyester filament yarns which come 100% from postconsumer bottles sourced, processed into a polymer through a non chemical mechanical process, and spun into yarn in Italy, thanks to an exclusive horizontal partnership agreement.

According to Filature Miroglio, the Newlife process is the first of its kind as it boasts a unique supply chain approach and offers an extensive high-calibre portfolio including fashion, sportswear, underwear, technical work wear and furnishing textiles. The company says that Newlife carries the same quality of standard polyester and assures the same performances.

For the Mirai project Newlife also has additional antibacterial and UV protection properties and incorporates the company's X-Dry technology, continuous filament polyester with modified cross section which transports moisture from the skin to the outer surface of the fabric allowing it to dry quickly. The presence of micro channels on the filaments improves their capillary action.

Santini says this is important because in the sportswear and work wear sectors, a fabrics capacity to absorb moisture and give a comfortable dry feeling to the skin allows the continuation of different activities in comfort.

When asked how many plastic bottles are needed to make a pair of socks, Paola Santini, Marketing and Communication Director of Santini says:

"Approximately half a bottle. With this precious cooperation, Santini confirms itself as the first Italian company in the specialised sportswear field to realise a complete product with new eco-high tech yarns coming from waste plastic material processed in a unique and revolutionary way, answering sensitively to the green vision and to values of uniqueness, responsibility and sustainability of a modern , performing and ethical company."

"Cutting edge, innovation and eco-creativity meet into the unique Mirai line. We chose to use the Newlife yarns because we like to support revolutionary and eco friendly ideas and we know very well the quality of the Miroglio products. Moreover, it is a totally Made in Italy project, and it fits perfectly with our company image and philosophy," Ms Santini adds.

Santini is a family run company based in Bergamo, Italy with over 40 years of manufacturing experience. Founded by Pietro Santini in 1965, Santini Maglifico Sportivo (SMS) is still a family run company with Pietro as Chairman ensuring his passion for excellence remains at the heart of the company. The company says that all Santini clothing is 100% handmade and designed in Bergamo, with a daily production of more than 2000 pieces. Over 70% of the company's products are said to be exported.
