Following its successful showing at the Enkvegas trade show in August, Shima Seiki, of Wakayama, Japan, together with its US subsidiary Shima Seiki USA will participate in the Coterie exhibition in New York this month.
The company will be showcasing the latest collection of the ‘Isola Bella’ brand of knitwear line, including the latest in seam-free Wholegarment knitwear that features superior fit, comfort and draping characteristics.
Galleria Intima, India’s largest sourcing fair for intimate apparel professionals came to an end on 24 August, 2013, receiving a massive response from the industry, the Intimate Apparel Association of India (IAAI) reports.
Taking place from 23-24 August at the Grand Hyatt, Goa, the second edition of the show surpassed the organisers’ expectations, welcoming about 1200 visitors, including 850 intimate apparel manufacturers. The event was inaugurated by Goa Tourism Minister Shri Dilip Parulekar and was also attended by the Chief Minister of Goa, Shri Manohar Parrikar, and National Secretary of BJP, Smt Arti Mehra.
Yusuf Dohadwala, CEO of IAAI commented: “IAAI has once again proved its commitment towards the industry’s growth. Galleria Intima has pushed many boundaries in its second round and has given the industry new scope. Over four billion rupees worth of business was transacted over these two days”.
The Taiwan Textile Federation (TTF), a private sector group, expects Taiwanese companies that attended a fashion trade exhibition in Las Vegas are to obtain about US$5 million worth of orders.

In first half of 2013 Lenzing has generated earnings in line with the company’s expectations, but considerably below the first half of 2012. Consolidated sales declined by 6.8% in the first half of 2013 to EUR 989.9 million. Furthermore, there was a loss of external sales of about EUR 42.5 million at the Paskov pulp plant.
EBITDA amounted to EUR 162.0 million, down 16.3% from the first half of 2012. The EBITDA margin was 16.4% in contrast to the prior year figure of 18.2%. Earnings before interest and tax (EBIT) in the first half-year totalled EUR 103 million, a decrease of 27%.
The disposal of the Business Unit Plastics by the Lenzing Group resulted in a cash inflow of EUR 61.7 million and a gain on disposal before taxes of EUR 25.9 million at the half-year reporting date.
When it comes to performance apparel, seams are the enemy, according to Nike - they are heavy, create areas of weakness and can be uncomfortable against the skin. Nike says it has found the solution, by introducing the Nike Pro Elite Knit, an innovative application of a warp-knitted construction.
“We were inspired by what we saw in footwear with Nike Flyknit, which created a virtually seamless upper,” explained Jamie Lee, Nike Women’s Training Product Craft Director. “Our approach was to create a seamless garment designed to amplify the body’s natural ability – something that moves with the body and breathes extremely well. In essence, something you never know is there.”
Unifi has purchased nine DTY (drawn textured yarn) machines and a sample machine, all of which will be relocated to the company's manufacturing facility in Yadkinville, NC.
The purchase is expected to increase the company's production capacity in the growing regional market, while also providing additional flexibility to support the production of the company's successful portfolio of premier value added products.
Knitwear designers, sourcing managers, retail buyers and brand directors explored an international offering comprising fibres, yarns, knitwear manufacturing, trend direction and market intelligence at the fifth edition of SPINEXPO New York, held from 16-18 July, at the Metropolitan Pavilion in Manhattan.
The three-day fair attracted 1379 visitors, a 10% increase over the 2012 edition. 37% of the attendees represented the flatbed knitting sector, with 16% involved in knitted fabrics for outerwear, 10% in weaving for clothing, 8.5% working in knitted accessories and 6% in hosiery.
