Gildan Activewear announced today that it is evaluating potential sites in the Southern United States for the construction of two additional yarn-spinning facilities, to support its projected sales growth and further reinforce its position as a global low cost manufacturer. Gildan says the facilities will be built with the most modern technology, which will help it continue to differentiate the product quality of its branded products. 700 new jobs are expected to be created.
Exports to EU countries from many of the world’s leading clothing exporting countries fell at rapid rates in 2012, reflecting continuing uncertain economic conditions in the region, according to a new report from the global business information company Textiles Intelligence – Trade and trade policy: the world’s leading clothing exporters and key markets.
Exports to countries in the Middle East, by contrast, grew strongly – as did exports to a number of countries in Asia and South America.
Leading cellulosic fibre producer Lenzing is presenting ‘Natural Connection’, the new marketing concept developed especially for Tencel/cotton blends, at the textile trade fairs in Paris.
The two cellulose fibres, Tencel and cotton, are ideal partners, the company reports. According to Lenzing, they go together perfectly, both of the natural origin and with similar features such as good breathing properties.
“There are numerous opportunities to place Tencel in relevant products where the added value of a Tencel/cotton blend would be appreciated. The combination of both fibres gives luxury textile manufacturers and retailers the chance to stand out from mass-produced products by means of innovation and marketing,” Dieter Eichinger, Vice President of the Textile Fibres Business Unit, commented.
