A group of around 40 Taiwan Knitting Industry Association (TKIA) members, textile entrepreneurs and their entourage toured Germany for two weeks in mid-June 2017, visiting a number of interesting German accessory suppliers and machine manufacturers, including Mayer & Cie. (MCT).

The Taiwanese textile entrepreneurs were visiting Germany for the Outdoor trade fair, which was held in Friedrichshafen, from 17-20 June.

On 22 June, the group visited Albstadt-Tailfingen. In a compact afternoon programme, the participants, many of whom had last visited Mayer & Cie. in 2014, learnt about how the company is positioned today. Sales director Wolfgang Müller provided an overview of the most important application areas of Mayer & Cie. circular knitting machines.

Hardy Bühler, key account manager and trend scout, concentrated on the most important current growth markets, with circular knitted shoe upper fabric heading the agenda. In particular, Mr Bühler discussed the OVJA 1.6 ET 3 WT, a Mayer machine that is highly suitable for manufacturing shoe upper fabrics.

“In comparison to flat knitting, circular knitting is much more productive,” Hardy Bühler told the visitors. “Because producing patterns is so easy, circular knitting scores again for its flexibility, particularly in comparison to warp knitting.” The Taiwanese guests had already seen many examples of circular knitted sports and leisure footwear at the Friedrichshafen trade fair.

The visit to Mayer & Cie. ended with a dinner at the local tennis club. The Taiwanese guests’ visit left them highly impressed, according to George Yeng, the head of Multicom, Mayer & Cie.’s Taiwanese representative. “They were excited by the quality and precision of the knitted fabric that Mayer & Cie. machines produce,” he said. “The sustainability and innovative strength for which Mayer & Cie. stands also made a big impression on them.”
