The Albion Knitting School has officially opened its doors following two vibrant days of creativity, connection and celebration at its inaugural Open Days in London. Designed to address the widening skills gap in the UK fashion and knitwear industry, the school offers hands-on education spanning design, development, manufacturing and programming.
The ribbon-cutting ceremony was led by Albion Knitting Company founder Christian Murphy and attended by a host of prominent industry figures. Among the guests were Sir David Wootton, former Lord Mayor of the City of London, and Adam Mansell, CEO of the UK Fashion and Textile Association (UKFT). They were joined by Matthew Ellis, Master of the Worshipful Company of Framework Knitters, alongside a diverse gathering of students, educators and knitwear professionals.
Rooted in the technical legacy of Albion Knitting Company, the new school aims to foster industry-ready confidence through immersive, practical training. The Open Days provided attendees with a first look at the school’s comprehensive course offerings, which combine traditional knitwear craftsmanship with cutting-edge digital programming techniques.
Accredited by the UKFT, the curriculum spans beginner to advanced levels and is tailored to meet the evolving demands of today’s knitwear sector. Located in central London, the school also emphasises social mobility by offering one assisted place per course for students from lower-income backgrounds.
“Thank you to everyone who helped make our launch unforgettable,” said the team at Albion Knitting School. “This is just the beginning — we look forward to shaping the future of knitwear education together.”
