The next edition of the Performance Days trade fair for sportswear that takes place from 3-4 November in Munich is set to explore the athleisure phenomenon and the challenges it creates from clothing manufacturers involved in developing collections that are required to be both fashionable and functional.

The new athleisure trend is seen as the new hype replacing the trend topic outdoor and it is currently blurring the line between active wear and sportswear, organisers report.

Comprehensive information about the focus-topic has been prepared for the exhibits at the Performance Forum, the Performance Gate, and for the industry expert talks.

Athleisure trend

The athleisure trend presents special challenges for the collections. The clothing only deserves the name if it can deliver the functionalities that the look promises, organizers report. While cut, colour, and style are important, the appropriate fabric function is even more important – not just for the athletes, but also for the success of the collection.

Clothing feels like a second skin only when it is comfortable to wear, when moisture is transported quickly, when it stops the formation of bad odours, and it warms or cools the body as required. It is exactly this feeling of well-being that turns a style into your favourite style, the one you never want to take off.

Extensive programme

With customary professionalism, the topic of athleisure is addressed in a comprehensive and informative manner at the next Performance Days. The Performance Gate shows the key fibres, fabrics, and treatments, their features, advantages, and functional ranges. The possibilities and opportunities for the clothing manufacturers in terms of this new trend will be discussed in the expert talks scheduled on 4 November.

Among others, textile engineer Dr Walter Kampen will explain the difference between natural and man-made chemical fibres in a live demonstration with help from a commercially available smart phone. Designer Nora Kühner gives us a preview of the dress code of the future and predicts the future functional range of athleisure wear. Also, the popular discussion panel with journalist Sophie Brahmel will focus on this latest trend. In summary, an extensive programme has been prepared to bring the sports and fashion brands closer together with this topic.
