January 2026 will mark the gradual restart of Bemberg production by Asahi Kasei at its Nobeoka facility in Japan. The site is the sole global production location for Bemberg and its reopening represents a significant milestone following the partial shutdown caused by the April 2022 fire.

The phased resumption of operations follows extensive investment and continuous work to reinforce safety measures, restore operational capability and establish long-term production stability. As output progressively increases, Asahi Kasei aims to renew its support for the market with a focus on reliability, efficiency and confidence.

Kaoru Hashimoto, Senior General Manager for Bemberg, said the restart reflects a shared commitment with stakeholders to a responsible and future-oriented business. He expressed appreciation to customers, partners and employees for their patience and continued trust during the recovery period, noting that the restoration of production is a crucial step forward for the fibre.

Bemberg is a regenerated cellulose fibre made through the transformation of cotton linter, a pre-consumer material, using a traceable closed-loop process. The fibre is recognised for its soft handle, fluid drape and breathable, antistatic properties, making it suitable for a wide range of fashion applications including everyday wear, modern tailoring and athleisure.

The fibre holds multiple environmental and quality certifications and complies with industry guidelines focused on responsible man-made cellulosic fibre production. Recent assessments have also confirmed its biodegradability in soil and marine environments.

Bemberg is produced exclusively by Asahi Kasei and is partnered with C.L.A.S.S., an international eco-hub based in Milan. Since 2007, C.L.A.S.S. has supported the fashion and textile supply chain by promoting innovation, design and responsibility, encouraging measurable progress towards more sustainable industry practices.
