bluesign is celebrating its 25th anniversary as a recognised pioneer in sustainable textile production. From its headquarters in St Gallen, the organisation now connects more than 900 partners globally - including chemical suppliers, textile mills, manufacturers and brands - through a robust system designed to reduce environmental impact and ensure responsible production practices.

Founded on the principle of removing harmful substances from the manufacturing process at the source, bluesign has remained steadfast in its mission to safeguard workers, protect the environment, and ensure product safety for consumers. Over the past quarter century, its influence has grown significantly, with more than 28,000 chemical products and 70,000 textile materials currently carrying the bluesign Approved label.

Setting a global benchmark for sustainable production, the bluesign system focuses on stringent chemical management, environmental performance and resource efficiency. It takes a holistic and science-based approach to verifying sustainability performance at every stage of the supply chain - from chemical inputs to finished products—ensuring transparency, traceability and continuous improvement.

bluesign’s work has evolved in step with the textile industry’s shifting priorities, responding to emerging challenges such as eliminating per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS), driving decarbonisation, and supporting circular business models. Through rigorous, ongoing verification, bluesign empowers companies to achieve meaningful, measurable progress while maintaining accountability and building trust with stakeholders.

“bluesign was initiated on the belief that sustainability could be embedded into the DNA of product creation,” said Daniel Rüfenacht, CEO of bluesign technologies. “Twenty-five years later, we’re proud to partner with industry leaders worldwide in building a more sustainable future.”
