The Woolmark Company will showcase the latest edition of The Wool Lab, which presents a collection of the latest commercially available wool fabrics and yarns, at Pitti Filati, which is taking place in Florence, this week. The Wool Lab AW18/19 is being brought to life at Pitti Filati via a fashion show staged by Creative Knitwear Design Masters students in partnership with Accademia Costume & Moda along with Modateca Deanna.

Collaborating with some of Italy’s most prestigious knitwear and yarn companies and with the technical support offered by Stoll and Shima Seiki, the Masters degree has been created for young designers interested in focusing on knitwear design and innovation. Participants also had the unique opportunity to create new yarns in collaboration with Zegna Baruffa Lane Borgosesia, working directly in the factory.

Designers used The Wool Lab AW18/19 as inspiration for their looks, creating 12 outfits using their original 100% Merino wool yarns which were be presented at the fashion show on 28 June at Pitti Filati, and will be showcased at Zegna Baruffa Lane Brogosesia’s stand during Pitti Filati.

“Each edition of The Wool Lab is created in collaboration with the world’s most innovative and quality-oriented spinners and weavers to present an inspirational sourcing guide available for designers and brands to view,” commented The Woolmark Company Managing Director Stuart McCullough.

“This edition marks six years since The Wool Lab first launched, with each edition well received by trade and generating more than 60,000 swatch requests. Each season, more and more fashion designers and brands look forward to seeing the latest offering as it provides the opportunity for them to explore an actual sourcing guide for commercially available products.”

“The inclusion of books dedicated to technical sportswear and athleisure, as well as innovative wool denim, allows The Woolmark Company to remain at the forefront of the international textile industry.”
