Italy’s Nuova Accademia di Belle Arti (NABA) launched its garment at last week’s Pitti Filati in Florence – an eco-cashmere sweater conceived by BA Fashion Design student Marta Reparaz Lipperheide.

The eco sweater was produced at the NABA campus in collaboration with flat knitting machine leader Shima Seiki Italia, using technologies made available by the company in the Academy’s Knitting Lab and the technical support of Filati Naturali, a brand which focuses on the research and evolution of raw materials, for carded material made from regenerated cashmere.

The project is the result of a contest dedicated to the students of the third year of the BA in Fashion Design of both Milan and Rome campus, and of the students of the MA in Fashion Design and in Textile Design in Milan.

The project benefited from the coordination of  Saverio Palatella, NABA lecturer and project leader, with Colomba Leddi, Fashion Design Area Leader, Luca Belotti, Course Leader of the MAs in Fashion Design and in Textile Design, Michele Corradini, BA in Fashion Design Course Leader, Sara Khalilnejad, Fashion Design Academic Assistant, and Gianluca Catalani, Fashion Laboratory Assistant. Its aim was to give life to a quality product that could represent the sense of belonging to the NABA’s community and the values of its Fashion Design Area in terms of sustainable and innovative design thinking while maintaining a high sense of sophistication and uniqueness.

Marta Reparaz Lipperheide’s design, selected by a jury composed of NABA lecturers, Shima Seiki representatives, and professionals, is inspired by the most recent Ivy League style trends, characterised by bright colours and genderless fit.

The synergy between NABA’s creativity, the technological approach of Shima Seiki, and Filati Naturali sustainability, the first garment Made in NABA was created to be produced in a limited edition, donated as a gift to a selection of Alumni that share the Academy’s values, representing them through their professional path.

The eco-cashmere sweater was displayed on Shima Seiki Italia’s booth at Pitti Filati, held at the Stazione Leopolda in Florence, last weekend.

Founded in 1980, NABA, Nuova Accademia di Belle Arti, with campus in Milan and in Rome, is the largest private art academy in Italy. Since 1981 NABA has been legally recognised by the Higher Education in Art and Music system (AFAM, Alta Formazione Artistica e Musicale), regulated by the Ministry of University and Research (MUR).
