Encouraging creativity and promoting education about new technologies is at the heart of every SPINEXPO show.

In this vein, organisers have this year collaborated with Nottingham Trent University and Winchester School of Art, both of which are renowned for their knitwear, textile and fashion programmes.

Here is a sneak peak at what the students are working on in busy preparation for the March show in Shanghai.

Nottingham Trent University

The students at the Nottingham Trent University chose to focus on three of SPINEXPO trend directions: Organic Futures, Human Centric and Modern Vintage. Visitors could get a little taster of these trend directions at SPINEXPO Paris, a European version of SPINEXPO Shanghai; a small but inviting preview to whet the appetite of buyers and creatives alike.

The rich diversity of materials presented is due to the different fields of specialisation that participated at NTU; BA Textile Design, BA Fashion Knitwear Design and Knitted Textiles, MA Fashion Knitwear Design and MA Textile Design Innovation.

Winchester School of Art

The level 2 knitwear students at the Winchester School of Art worked with the trend Modern Vintage, focusing on renewability, reusability and sustainability.

They each produced a collection of fabrics, which were then used to create a collaborative collection of garments by using their own ideas to create innovative and modern, knitted textiles to promote change within our society.

Generous spinners

“These collaborations would not be possible without the generosity of our spinners,” said organisers. “Thank you to those that have donated materials: AA Global, Best Leader, Best Shan, Consinee, Esquel, Filpiu, Hotta, Huasheng, Hubo, Haoye, Jianlu, Kyototex, Lugang, M.Oro, Orient Hongda, Sawada, Shilead, Topline, UPW, Winning, Xinao, Xinfang, Xinnuo, Zixin, Yarns & Colors, Yiwagoe, Yusheng, Zhongding, and Zhongyin.”

This spring’s edition of SPINEXPO Shanghai, a trade fair dedicated to promoting innovation in the yarn, fibre and knitwear industry, will take place from 5-7 March in Pudong, Shanghai, featuring the Spring/Summer 2020 trends and new ideas.
