Culp, a leading supplier of circular knitted and woven mattress and upholstery fabrics for residential and commercial furniture, has announced the sale of its mattress fabric manufacturing facility in Quebec, Canada. The transaction, valued at CA$8.6 million (US$6.2 million), marks the final phase in the company’s ongoing restructuring of its mattress fabric operations.

President and CEO Iv Culp expressed gratitude to the team for executing the company’s restructuring plan efficiently. “Our ability to reshape the cost structure of our mattress fabric business and complete the final step of selling our facility in Canada within a year is a testament to their focus and dedication,” he said.

Culp noted that while the local industrial market in Quebec proved softer than initially anticipated, challenges such as rezoning and utility service issues were navigated to achieve a successful sale. The company expects to benefit financially from eliminating the significant monthly carrying costs previously associated with the facility.

The consolidation of Canadian operations into the company’s US manufacturing base forms part of a broader strategic pivot. This streamlined model, which also includes nearshore and offshore production capabilities in Haiti, the Dominican Republic, Vietnam, Turkey, and China, is designed to offer customers enhanced flexibility and cost efficiency in navigating the current global trade environment.

Culp’s latest move underscores its commitment to optimising operations while continuing to serve customer and shareholder interests through a robust and adaptable supply chain.
