Decline in Turkey’s imports of circular knitting machines

According to the latest official foreign trade data released by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK), 1,100 circular knitting machines, worth US$ 47.4 million, were imported in the first six months of 2018. This number is lower both in value and quantity than in the same period of 2017.

In the first six months of 2017, 1,132 machines with a total value of US$ 61 million were imported. In the same period of this year, however, the number of machines imported decreased by 32 units. It has been reported that this decline in machinery imports is due to the overvaluation of foreign exchange rates (dollars and euros) and high interest rates.

In January-June period of 2018, the largest number of circular knitting machines came from China. Germany came in second place with 290. England came in third with 165 units.

According to statistics, only imports from China, Malaysia and England have increased, while other countries showed a decline.
