This year has seen the collaboration between the Worshipful Company of Framework Knitters, The Drapers and Shima Seiki Europe developed further with 12 students from six different Universities, attending training at Shima Seiki Europe’s Head Office based in Castle Donington, Derbyshire.

Each student received two weeks expert training on both the use of Shima Seiki’s APEX design system for the development of stitches/structures/jacquards in 2D and 3D formats, as well as training on programming/use of the latest Shima Seiki knitting machines.

Both training courses, Basic Design and Basic Knit, followed the same criteria and format as delivered to Shima Seiki industrial and retail customers, ensuring that each student received the necessary skills that any perspective employer would be interested in.

Two third year students from De Montfort, Derby, Herriot Watt, Huddersfield, Leeds and Nottingham Trent Universities were selected by their course leaders to receive the training.

“It is a great project for the company to be involved with. Having the opportunity to upskill students by enabling them to learn and work on the latest Shima Seiki technology only helps provide the industry with more skilled and employment ready students graduating from university,” commented Richard Webster, Managing Director Shima Seiki Europe.
