
ITM expands into Central Asia
The dg expo that is due to take place in the Hotel Pennsylvania, New York, from 23-24 July features a seminar programme that will start a day earlier and will focus on different business tips for starting designers and entrepreneurs as well as textile classes.
Exhibition dg expo features fabric and trim suppliers and service providers. With all the exhibitors coming from US or Canada, the show will be focused on the needs of the designers, manufacturers, private label retailers, event/party planners, retail fabric stores and others looking for suppliers with low minimums and stock.
The event will offer classes for beginners and also industry professionals with an opportunity to learn more about fibres and fabrics, and ‘Made in the USA’ production sourcing.
The first seminar that will open the programme on 22 July starting at 10:30am is ‘Tips & Services for Designers/Entrepreneurs’ that will provide visitors with the information on how to manage their business efficiently and enhance the creative process.
On the same day another seminar called ‘ Starting & Growing A Successful Fashion Business: What A Designer/Entrepreneur Needs to Know!’ that will start at 4.30pm will advise visitors on finding the right market niche, designing a line, the legal licensing requirements for a business set-up, finance needs, production, costing, branding and marketing, through to the final sale.
On Tuesday, 23 July, a 6:00pm seminar ‘Marketing Your Line - from Reps to Tradeshows’ will be discussing the product introduction to the market and advise on how to find the best sales representative.
This will be followed by a 12:30pm seminar on Wednesday called ‘Building a Company, Branding a Line’, which will examine the various steps a new company should take to begin the important brand building process.
A 12:30pm ‘Fabric Printing, Dyeing and Finishing’ seminar on Monday will focus on synthetic fabric printing options like sublimation and digital printing versus natural fibre printing techniques, as well as the different dyeing methods for fabrics and how design costs and fabric performance are impacted by dye selection.
This to be followed by series of seminars called ‘Get Smart About Textiles’ that will take place on Monday, 2:00pm, and on Tuesday, 12.30pm. Starting with an introduction to key textile terms and concepts, seminars focus on fibres, yarns, knits, wovens, nonwovens, dyeing & finishing techniques and fabric testing.
The ‘Made in the USA: Production Sourcing’ 8:45am seminar on Tuesday, 23 July, will address where to find the resources to produce a sewn product in the USA. The class will give an opportunity of meeting domestic cut & sew contractors, some with factories in the USA and China, to find out how they can work with you to get the quantities you need as you grow your business.
Another sourcing themed seminar series to be held on Wednesday, 24July, will include a 3:00pm class ‘Sourcing Tips for Designers & Buyers’, and a 6:00pm ‘Sourcing Production for Designers & Start Ups’ seminar. Featuring suggestions and tips for sourcing the fabrics & trims you want - in the quantities you need, seminars will walk you through the production process - including samples, dups, tech packs, to production runs.
‘Emerging New Fibres & Fabrics’ seminar at 8:30 on Wednesday will introduce some of the newest fibres and fabrics – both natural and synthetic. This presentation will be a compilation of interesting products and technologies, that have been recently announced and that have potential future applicability to the apparel, home fashions and the performance fabrics markets.
