New from Coats is EcoRegen, a biodegradable thread made from 100% lyocell, the renewable fibre derived from wood pulp sourced from sustainably managed forests.

The thread is fully biodegradable and compostable due to its cellulosic origin and is suitable for a wide range of apparel applications to accommodate multiple customer needs.

In 2018, Coats introduced EcoVerde in 2018, which is now one of the most comprehensive ranges of 100% recycled polyester threads, zips and trims on the market and will shortly be launching two new sustainable products.

-EcoCycle, a range of water dissolvable thread that allow garment recycling and end to end circularity.

-Eco-B, a recycled polyester thread incorporating an additive which reduces synthetic fibre accumulation in landfills and microfibre pollution in oceans.

All of the sustainable and circular threads are said to provide superior sewing performance and excellent quality.

“Sustainable business practices are vitally important for responsible businesses and we continuously strive to support our customers in achieving their sustainability goals,” said Adrian Elliott, president of apparel and footwear at Coats. “With the launch of our new sustainable threads, we are developing products that allow our customers to design garments with a clear end-of-life strategy built into them. Our global teams have developed threads that provide uncompromised quality and performance in a completely sustainable offering.”

UK headquartered Coats is the world’s leading industrial thread company with a workforce of 17,000 people across six continents and revenues in 2020 of US$1.2 billion.
