For the next Spring/Summer season Cariaggi, Italian knitwear yarn spinner, has come up with a new Ultralight collection of yarns, which take the lightness and impalpability of the finest fibres to the highest levels, according to the manufacturer.

Cashmere and merino are reworked in ever-finer counts, and the raw materials are processed with different techniques to produce diverse effects – some are softer and fluffier, while others look drier and crisper.

Ultralight collection

Innovations in the Ultralight collection include Ephesus, a new 100% merino yarn (2/150), as well as ever-lighter versions of Cariaggi classics: Soffio (100% cashmere 2/140), Jaipur (70% cashmere-30% silk 2/120), Belize (100% Belize cotton 2/240) and Belize silk (70% Belize cotton-30% silk 2/120).

In order to bring out the lightness of the yarns, the colours chosen for the collection are pale and delicate yet bright and intense, the company reports.

Vicuña fibre

Extensive research has gone into vicuña, the precious fibre from the High Andes considered among the finest (it measures up to 12 microns) in the world, according to Cariaggi.

An adult vicuña produces a maximum of 250 grams of wool a year, the animals are shorn no more frequently than every two years and the sale of vicuña is directly controlled by the Peruvian government.

Cariaggi’s in-depth research into vicuña has enabled it to produce fine carded yarns Nobilis (100% vicuña – 2/28) and Suavis (90% cashmere-10% vicuña – 2/36); and impalpable combed yarns Regis (100% vicuña – 2/60), Laurea (70% vicuña 30%-silk – 2/60) and Levitas (90% cashmere-10% vicuña – 2/60). To safeguard the fibre’s natural beauty and uniqueness, the yarns are available in their natural colours which range from golden beige to a deep fawn.
