Report summary
Five so-called “NextGen” fibre-to-fibre recycling companies—Circ, Circulose, RE&UP Recycling Technologies, Samsara Eco and Syre—are playing a pivotal role in accelerating progress within the global textile recycling sector. Supported by major policy developments in the European Union, including landfill bans, extended producer responsibility schemes and the prospect of mandatory recycled content targets, these companies are scaling up technologies and establishing long-term partnerships with brands and supply chain stakeholders.
All five companies are members of the T2T Alliance, which has submitted a proposal to EU legislators calling for mandatory recycled content in all new textiles placed on the EU market. During 2025, the alliance members have announced a series of high-profile initiatives and attracted substantial investment, signalling growing confidence in the commercial viability of fibre-to-fibre recycling and its potential for global expansion.
Despite this momentum, the report highlights significant challenges that continue to hinder wider adoption. High costs, limited access to suitable textile waste feedstock and inconsistent demand remain key barriers. Affordability is identified as the most critical issue, with many brands still opting for lower-cost virgin polyester or recycled polyester sourced from PET beverage bottles. As a result, there is little incentive across the production value chain to incorporate recycled polyester fibres without regulatory intervention or stronger market signals.
