Spain’s Textil A. Ortiz has strengthened its position as Europe’s leading supplier of premium quality knitted and woven lining fabrics with the successful commissioning of a fourth Monforts Montex stenter at its Santa Perpètua de Mogoda plant, 25 kilometres north of Barcelona.

The new Montex 8500-9F is being used to finish fabrics with softeners, water repellents and flame retardants, while delivering significant cost savings. Linings are now available in more than 1,000 colours, supported by a comprehensive database of designs and prints.

“To be competitive in this sector, it is mandatory to keep working on innovation and fabric design with the latest technology,” said plant manager Xavier Mundet. “For the major companies we work with, fast service, superior quality and unbeatable prices are paramount. We have always trusted Monforts and are very satisfied with the performance of our existing Montex stenters.”

Equipped with direct gas heating, a Hercules needle chain, a Matex finishing padder and two heat exchangers, the new line also incorporates a Monformatic Professional measuring and control system. In combination with heat recovery, this enables both optimised energy use and reproducible fabric quality.

Textil A. Ortiz, which celebrated its 70th anniversary in 2024, has also invested heavily in sustainability. A water treatment plant at the site means the company is the first dyeing and finishing business in its sector not to discharge water into the public sewerage system. In addition, 15,000 square metres of photovoltaic panels and two wind turbines now provide 100% green energy for the plant.

The business has further expanded into recycled polyester linings with the installation of new circular knitting machines, strengthening its reputation for innovation and responsibility.

“Our customer is very happy with the energy savings it is experiencing on the new machines compared to the older stenters,” said Oriol Canet, sales manager at Aguilar & Pineda, Monforts’ local representative. “With the latest Montex stenters, overall energy savings of up to 40% can now be achieved compared to conventional systems with no heat recovery.”

Textil A. Ortiz Manager Abel Ortiz added: “Local service and sustainability are increasingly valued today. Trusted technology providers like Monforts enable us to make further gains in these areas.”
