Fashion for Good and Arvind Limited have jointly announced the launch of Future Forward Factories; a pioneering initiative aimed at radically transforming textile manufacturing in India. The project includes both the creation of a strategic blueprint for sustainable production and the development of a physical manufacturing site designed to showcase and embed cutting-edge innovations.
Based on new modelling and practices, the proposed facility is expected to achieve a 93% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions compared to conventional manufacturing operations. A core objective of the initiative is the transformation of Tier 2 factories—often the backbone of global textile supply chains—into efficient, environmentally responsible and economically viable units.
The initiative is supported by a coalition of catalytic funders and implementation partners. These include Laudes Foundation, Apparel Impact Institute, and IDH, alongside ground-level collaborators Bluwin, Wazir Advisors, Grant Thornton Bharat, and Sattva Consulting. Together, they aim to deliver a framework of practical, scalable solutions that the wider industry can adopt.
“With Future Forward Factories, we are taking decisive action to catalyse transformation through both knowledge-sharing and practical implementation,” said Katrin Ley, Managing Director at Fashion for Good.
The blueprint and facility under development are set to serve as a replicable model for textile manufacturing, helping the industry move toward a future where decarbonisation and responsible production are not only possible but achievable at scale.
