At this year’s Techtextil, the leading technical textiles show which was held in Frankfurt in June, Groz-Beckert used the platform to present its product diversity for knitting and other textile technologies such as weaving, felting and sewing, to international experts.

Technical textiles are becoming increasingly important for the company. According to Groz-Beckert, in 1985 technical textiles accounted for a mere 5 to 8 percent share of global production and today that figure is 40 percent. The company says it is therefore making an intense commitment to this future sector and the main focus is on continuing to develop its position as a comprehensive systems supplier along the value-added chain and to therefore become a motor of progress in the textile industry.

As a system supplier and service provider, Groz-Beckert says it positions itself to meet the demand of today's market with new, innovative solutions. A further milestone in the direction of system supplier is the production and the sales of cylinders, sinker rings and dials of high quality for circular knitting machines under the Groz-Beckert brand name.

“Often individual solutions are necessary for the production of technical textiles, which are developed and designed to the customers' needs by experienced and qualified Groz-Beckert personnel. With the help of state-of-the-art and well-matched components, the production of these developments is implemented in the quickest possible way”, Groz-Beckert says.

Examples for this are circular knitting cylinders as well as litespeed and compound needles which are more and more used in the technical field. For the processing of carbon, glass and high-strength fibres as well as copper, silver, steel wire the compound needle appears to be an indispensable tool, Groz-Beckert says.

“It would not be possible to fulfil the demand for high velocities and long running times to produce technical textiles without the compound needle today. The compound needle technology allows to economic production of numerous products”, the company says.

Examples of applications where Groz-Beckert products are used in manufacture are rotor blades made of glass fibre reinforced plastic for wind power stations and carbon fibre reinforced plastic for aircraft construction.

An important cornerstone for Groz Beckert in developing into a systems supplier is the construction of the company’s Technology and Development Centre in Albstadt, Germany and another is the further intensification of customer relations.

According to the company, the Technology and Development Centre utilizes sound scientific methods, and is both neutral and independent in its activities. Across a 25,000-square-metre area, the future of the textile industry is being given a unique environment, Groz-Beckert says. Economic aspects are emphasised with the overriding aim being to develop economically viable solutions that are crucial for a fast return on investment. Groz Beckert says that it’s Technology and Development Centre has become synonymous with a new way of thinking and it is where innovative ideas are turned into products that truly convince.
