The American Apparel & Footwear Association (AAFA) has issued a statement saying it is saddened and disturbed by the violent assault on US democracy and democratic values.

“The American Apparel & Footwear Association is saddened and disturbed by the violent assault on our democracy and democratic values,” the Washington based organisation, which represent more than 1000 famous brands, said.

“AAFA fully supports the U.S. Constitution and our democratic institutions.

Today’s scenes may have begun as peaceful protest, but quickly escalated into a direct attack on our nation’s core beliefs and way of life when an armed mob stormed the Capitol. This was unacceptable; it was crime against the United States and its people.

It is long past time for us to unite and support the peaceful transition of power.

We have a great deal of work ahead of us to heal our nation and our economy, and our democratic institutions must be fully defended so they can be fully deployed to support that work,” AAFA concluded.

The American Apparel & Footwear Association (AAFA) is the national trade association representing apparel, footwear and other sewn products companies, and their suppliers, which compete in the global market. Representing more than 1,000 world famous name brands, it is the trusted public policy and political voice of the apparel and footwear industry, its management and shareholders, its nearly four million U.S. workers, and its contribution of more than $400 billion in annual U.S. retail sales. AAFA provides exclusive expertise in trade, brand protection, and supply chain and manufacturing to help its members navigate the complex regulatory environment and lower costs. Members gain access to information and exclusive insights on regulation and policy, and premier opportunities for networking and collaboration.
