Coats Group plc, a world-class Tier 2 manufacturer and trusted partner for the apparel and footwear industries, will announce its latest innovation - Coats Textile-to-Textile sewing threads - at this month’s Textile Exchange Conference in Lisbon, Portugal.
Available in T2T Epic and T2T Gramax variants, the proof-of-concept threads are made from textile waste using a chemical recycling process. They match the strength, durability and colour fastness of standard Coats threads and can be seamlessly integrated into existing sewing machine lines without downtime.
If scaled across the industry, these innovative threads have the potential to help divert millions of garments from landfill each year.
“At Coats, circularity is no longer a concept; it’s a commitment,” said Adriana Morasco, Senior Vice President, Apparel Commercial. “Our Textile-to-Textile threads show that sustainability and performance can go hand in hand. They are designed to fit seamlessly into existing production lines, helping brands move faster toward their circularity goals.”
Developed at Coats’ Sustainability Hub in India, the new threads are made from post-industrial and post-consumer waste. The initiative represents a significant step forward in addressing the growing global challenge of textile waste by repurposing it into high-quality sewing threads — advancing the circular economy while reducing environmental impact.
By 2026, Coats aims to increase its use of preferred raw materials to 60%, up from 31% in 2022 and 46% in 2024. This latest innovation supports brand partners in accelerating their own material transitions, enabling circular content for one of a garment’s most essential components: the thread itself.
Coats will showcase its Textile-to-Textile threads at the Textile Exchange Conference, held from 13–17 October 2025 in Lisbon, where visitors can see the innovation in action and explore its role in shaping a more circular textile future.
