Gildan Activewear Inc. has released its 21st Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) Report, detailing continued progress towards the ten targets of its Next Generation ESG strategy. ESG is one of three key pillars of the company’s broader Gildan Sustainable Growth (GSG) strategy.
“Over the years, ESG has been foundational to our operations,” said Glenn Chamandy, President and CEO. “It has helped us innovate, adapt to evolving customer needs, attract talent, and support our communities. Alongside our 50,000 employees, we remain committed to making apparel with respect.”
Among the highlights from 2024, Gildan reported a 25.2% reduction in water intensity per kilogram produced across its facilities compared to a 2018 baseline. This was achieved through the use of innovative technologies and proprietary processes. The company also increased its sourcing of sustainable cotton from 35.7% in 2023 to 77.3% in 2024 and doubled its use of recycled polyester and alternative fibres or yarns over the same period.
Further, Gildan achieved ISO 45001 certification at two more facilities, bringing the total number certified to five.
The company also received a range of recognitions for its ESG leadership. These include:
- Inclusion on the Dow Jones Best-in-Class North America Index for the 12th year running
- Appearance in the 2025 Sustainability Yearbook by S&P Global for the 13th consecutive year
- Recognition by CDP’s Leadership Band for 2024 climate change disclosures, the fifth such distinction
- Listing in the inaugural TIME World’s Most Sustainable Companies
- Named one of Canada’s Best 50 Corporate Citizens by Corporate Knights for the third year in a row
The full 2024 ESG Report, including supporting documentation, is available on Gildan’s corporate website, which also now features expanded ESG topic transparency.
