Invista has expanded its production of Xtra Life Lycra 275B fibre to Paulínia, Brazil, bringing powerful shape retention and fit benefits to swimwear manufacturers in South America. Previously produced only in the U.S. and Asia, the fibre was engineered to protect swimwear from fit loss due to exposure to the harsh conditions such as suntan oil, UV rays, pool water and body oils.

“With production of Xtra Life Lycra fibre now expanding into multiple regions, mills, designers and retailers around the world have greater access to this innovative fibre technology,” said Ninabeth Sowell, global marketing director of Invista Intimate Apparel and Swimwear. “Such access enables them to offer swimwear with consistent, world-class quality and durability.”

Under Invista’s test conditions, typical swimwear fabrics experience colour loss after prolonged exposure to pool water, often signalling the end of a garment’s life span for a typical consumer. The expectation of perfect fit and shape retention during the garment’s useful life is among the top priorities when purchasing swimwear, according to consumer research conducted by Invista. Xtra Life Lycra fibre improves fabric power retention so the garment retains its fit and shape throughout its expected life span, delivering exceptional customer satisfaction.

Invista is one of the world’s largest integrated producers of polymers and fibres, primarily for nylon, spandex and polyester applications. With a business presence in over 20 countries, Invista’s global businesses deliver exceptional value for their customers through technology innovations, market insights and a powerful portfolio of global trademarks including, for the Apparel division: Lycra fibre, Lycra garment technology, Coolmax fabric, Thermolite fabric and insulation, freshFX fabric, Supplex fabric and Tactel fibre.
