The Italian hosiery district has recently marked a century of manufacturing excellence, celebrating 100 years of craftsmanship, innovation, and international recognition. With around 10,000 employees and 92 companies, the district generates more than one billion euros in annual turnover, positioning itself as a global leader in the production of women’s stockings, sports socks, medical hosiery, and seamless garments.

The centenary celebrations were held at Palazzo Lombardia during Milan Fashion Week, bringing together institutions, stakeholders, and leading companies to reflect on the past and discuss the future of the sector. Despite the challenges of recent years, the district has continued to invest in specialised technical training, support for SMEs, and closer collaboration between industry, schools, and regional authorities. Its official recognition by the Lombardy Region as a strategic production hub further underlines its significance for both local and international growth.

A key theme of the celebrations was sustainability, which is set to define the future of Italian hosiery manufacturing. Fulgar, a long-standing member of the district, reaffirmed its commitment to environmental and social responsibility through ongoing innovation. Among its most notable initiatives is the Q-Cycle yarn, a pioneering circular economy solution that transforms end-of-life tyres into high-quality polyamide. This process cuts fossil resource use and reduces CO₂ emissions without compromising yarn performance or quality.

Through projects such as Q-Cycle, Fulgar continues to strengthen the Italian hosiery district’s reputation for combining tradition with cutting-edge technology and sustainability, ensuring the region remains at the forefront of textile innovation for the next hundred years.
