Italian yarn specialist Monticolor has launched its Fall/Winter 2026/27 collection under the evocative theme Curiosities, transforming the season’s knitwear possibilities into a tactile and visual journey of discovery. Inspired by the concept of a Wunderkammer, or cabinet of curiosities, the Brescia-based company blends tradition and innovation to create yarns that offer expressive freedom, fantasy, and sophisticated sustainability.

Monticolor’s new yarns embrace a rich, exploratory spirit, shaped by three distinct creative themes: Gothic Novels, Modern Fairytales, and Incredible Creatures. Each line interprets the season’s mood with unexpected textures, colour stories, and ethically sourced fibres.

Gothic Novels evokes moody contrasts and mysterious elegance through yarns such as Arctic Sense and Nordic Sense - refined blends of OCS-certified organic cotton and cashmere, with soft mother-of-pearl highlights. Sequins, lamé brocades, and openwork structures create a dramatic narrative, complemented by the luminous Twinkle Sense, which adds a subtle shimmer to neutral bases.

The Nordic-inspired story continues with Inuit Merino and Polar Merino, both spun from RWS-certified Extrafine Merino Wool and wrapped in organic cotton. These yarns offer bold colour contrast, three-dimensional textures, and a uniquely light yet warm structure.

In Modern Fairytales, Monticolor revisits childhood narratives through a contemporary lens, using nostalgic textures such as bouclé and tweed to ground the imagination in artisanal elegance. Tweed Sense, a cashmere-organic cotton blend, combines irregular yarn texture with rich jaspé tones, including denim-inspired blues and heathered greys, allowing designers to explore both whimsy and refinement.

Finally, Incredible Creatures channels the surreal into reality, fusing artificial intelligence inspiration with vivid yarn design. The standout Bio Velvety is crafted from GOTS-certified organic cotton, forming a superfine chenille ideal for next-generation velvet alternatives. Its plush, lightweight finish makes it suitable for contemporary knitted garments that demand both comfort and innovation.
