The Lenzing Group has successfully completed a comprehensive extension program at its Heiligenkreuz site in Austria and started production on schedule. A total investment of 25 million Euros has extended production capacity for Tencel fibres by 10,000 tons to almost 50,000 tons annually. The extension essentially comprises two new spinning lines added to the second production line and adapted and enhanced infrastructure.

In a discussion with the state governor of Burgenland, Hans Niessl, in Eisenstadt, the chairman of the Lenzing management board, Thomas Fahnemann, underlined the importance which the Burgenland site has for the Lenzing Group. “Over the past years, Heiligenkreuz has developed into a very successful production site. Our high investment activity over the past years is proof of our future commitment. Given the right framework conditions and market demand, we will consider future extension.“ Fahnemann said.

The site produces high-quality Tencel fibre from natural raw material pulp by an ecologically sound and future-oriented process. Lenzing’s Tencel fibre is favoured not only in fibre blends for apparel applications but also for home textiles applications and according to Lenzing, the fibre is highly successful in technical applications, for example in separators for the batteries of hybrid-power cars.

Tencel is is also produced at Lenzing sites in Grimsby, United Kingdom and Mobile, Alabama in the USA.
