The Lycra Company has officially opened its largest spandex production facility to date - the Yinchuan Lycra fibre plant in Ningxia Province, China. The new facility marks a significant investment of more than RMB 800 million and underscores the company’s commitment to the Chinese market and to building a more localised, sustainable supply chain.
Developed in partnership with Yinchuan Financial Capital Investment Group, the plant will initially add 30,000 tonnes of spandex production capacity, generating annual output exceeding RMB 1 billion and creating around 500 new jobs. Future expansion plans will see capacity increase to 120,000 tonnes per year, meeting rising demand for high-quality spandex across China and the wider Asia-Pacific region.
The Yinchuan site, The Lycra Company’s second production facility in China, combines advanced automation, global R&D expertise, and intelligent manufacturing systems. The company says the plant will operate under its sustainability framework, focusing on energy efficiency, emissions reduction, and environmentally responsible production processes.
“China is strategically important, representing over 50% of the global apparel production market,” said Gary Smith, CEO of The Lycra Company. “This partnership enables us to optimise our product mix more broadly while meeting increasing demand for quality spandex. I would like to express my gratitude to the local authorities and all our partners for their support and commitment.”
