A few weeks ago at the ITMA trade fair the circular-knitted sports outfit in Mayer & Cie.’s corporate colours was worn by a shop window dummy in a victory pose on the rostrum in Barcelona, where it stood for the popularity of fashionable sportswear, an important growth driver in the circular knitting industry.

Last month in Albstadt the kit was back in its real role as the company’s Bike Marathon sports- and team wear. The race that annually transforms Albstadt into a town of cycle racing fans took place this year on 13 July. It was the third time in succession that the town’s circular knitting machine manufacturer entered a team, a team wearing the Mayer & Cie. outfit. The company has sponsored the event since 2018.

Bike Marathon entrants must complete an 83-km circuit with a cumulative elevation gain of more than 2,000m in no more than six and a half hours. “Even though there was heavy rainfall the previous day the track was in top condition,” said Gunter Gerstenecker, a regular MCT team member. “Taking part is all that matters,” he said good-naturedly, and even more importantly, “we all crossed the finishing line in one piece.”

The team leader was Patrick Klesatschke in a time of 3 hours, 35 minutes and 40 seconds. It was his second Albstadt Bike Marathon with the Mayer & Cie. team. His team colleague Daniel Sauter had to skip this year’s race for professional reasons.

Benjamin and Sebastian Mayer were also unable to take part. Last year both of them competed wearing the company’s green, white and black colours. “Due to ITMA we simply didn’t have enough time in which to prepare this year, so we decided to root for the team,” said Benjamin Mayer, Mayer & Cie. Managing Director. “We congratulate all competitors on their success and look forward to next year’s 2020 Bike Marathon.”
