Boston based Ministry of Supply has launched a new product called the Women’s 3D Print-Knit Slouchy Sweater which the company says has “an effortless easy cut built with a zero-waste seamless design, made from soft, sustainable Viloft viscose for the perfect balance of warmth and long-lasting resilient stretch.” The new design is manufactured using Shima Seiki’s seam free WHOLEGARMENT technology.

Highly elastic PBT yarn, wood-derived viscose and an innovative stitching unlocks plush, spongey softness that feels like a weighted blanket (or wearing a hug),” Ministry of Supply explains.

Ministry of Supply’s ‘Slouchy’ is, according to the company, a zero-waste sweater. Traditional cut-and-sew manufacturing typically leaves around 35% of knitted fabric on the cutting room floor, whereas the company’s WHOLEGARMENT based ‘3D Print-Knit’ goes directly from yarn to garment, eliminating waste.

Unlike traditional knitwear, where each panel of front body, back body, and sleeves are knit separately and attached afterward, this Women’s Slouchy Sweater uses WHOLEGARMENT technology to three-dimensionally knit everything all in one piece. Since the 3D Knitting technology doesn’t require any cutting or sewing, it is considered a highly sustainable form of knitwear. In addition, the product only uses the actual amount of yarn/material needed for the garment without waste, making it the ideal knitwear that is also friendly for the environment with zero waste.

In the new Slouchy sweater, seamless knit patterns mimic traditional cuffs, hem and raglan sleeves for a unique look that won’t “tear or blow out over time.”

Ministry of Supply is a Boston-based high performance business wear men's and women's fashion brand launched in 2012, which was founded by former Massachusetts Institute of Technology students.
