Eschler Spacer KnitsSwiss performance fabrics specialist Eschler is presenting a collection of highly technical, innovative fabrics for sportswear for the winter 2011/12 season. The collection includes new qualities for alpine racing suits, innovative spacer knits and a print collection with a coherent design for all three layers.

Eschler has introduced a new generation of its successful Spacer Knits, which are specially designed  for highly functional sportswear. The company says it engineers the double layer fabric with a three-dimensional spacing structure between the inner and the outer fabric face, which offers superb moisture management plus great thermal insulation or ventilation, depending on the construction. Eschler claims that the new Spacer Knits are also suitable for functional snow sports clothing, bike wear, or for use in protectors.

The fabrics are available with variable spacing and surfaces, in non-stretch versions as well as 2-way or 4-way stretch qualities, which also allow comfortable skin-tight fit. In various lamination, coating, or taping technologies, the knits can be combined on one or both sides with other functional fabrics, depending on the intended use. The collection also includes water and windproof materials with highly breathable membrane technologies, as well as fabrics that are brushed on one side.

All Eschler Spacer Knits feature the third dimension with filaments separating and spacing the two layers. Eschler says that they offer fantastic moisture management and the trapped air delivers great thermal insulation.

In addition, the company says that Spacer Knits have a lasting resistance to pressure, a good dimensional stability, and are machine washable. Eschler mostly uses Polyester, offering versions with a low PBT quantity or elastane. For the design, the Swiss brand focuses on checked patterns, as well as mesh and rib structures.

Eschler Product Manager Markus Lutz says: “I am convinced that many designers have not yet realised the fantastic benefits that our 3D Spacer Knits offer. The new fabrics are mainly engineered for fashion skiwear, bike apparel, as well as for inserts in body-mapping garments. They may also be used instead of foams in protection gear.”
