Nine newcomers joined the leading circular knitting machine manufacturer Mayer & Cie. (MCT) on 1 September 2017. They are the new intake of apprentices who started work at the company after the summer holidays.

Mayer & Cie. Managing Partner Marcus Mayer and fellow-director Sebastian Mayer, who is in charge of corporate development, were not going to miss the opportunity of welcoming the newcomers in person on their second day with the company.

“Our employees and their know-how are the most valuable resource that we have,” said Sebastian Mayer. “We attach great importance to passing on our extensive experience to our trainees because in doing so we are laying the foundation stone for our future success.”

Eight young people joined Mayer & Cie. as technical apprentices and one as a commercial apprentice. Industrial mechanic is one of the most popular apprenticeships. Slightly less well known, but no less important for a knitting machine manufacturer, is the trade of a textiles production mechanic. “Learning it takes apprentices very quickly to the knitting machine with the green logo that stands for reliability and quality around the world,” says the company.

It is a product with a high identification factor, according to the HR department at the long-established Albstadt-based company. Other factors are the quality of vocational training provided, the pleasant working atmosphere and the attractive framework conditions. These include, in addition to the financial aspects, the Getting to Know Each Other Day and other joint excursions.

As a result, Mayer & Cie. has not yet had any difficulty in finding suitable applicants for its apprenticeships, the company comments. To ensure that this continues to be the case the knitting machine manufacturer has cooperation arrangements with the Lammerberg-Realschule in Albstadt-Tailfingen, the Schillerschule in Albstadt-Onstmettingen and the Technisches Gymnasium in Balingen.

In addition to apprenticeships MCT provides two places for a combined course of study in engineering. In all, 23 young people are currently training at Mayer & Cie. to prepare for their careers.
