PACE Cardiology, a leading healthcare provider, is now offering patients cardiac testing via washable smart clothing that uses fibres to track their blood pressure, heart rate and more. Ontario based PACE is embracing technology developed by Toronto based Myant, the company known for its flat knitted Skiin bio-sensing garments.

“PACE is pleased to be working on a ground-breaking personalized healthcare project with Myant: the company behind the Skiin family of bio-sensing garments,” explained Dr. Yaariv Khaykin, physician lead at PACE Cardiology, on social media.

“Licensed by Health Canada, these garments feature textile electrodes knitted into the fabric to help us monitor your heart health and general wellness.”

Known as the Myant Virtual Clinic, the goal of the program is to bring remote healthcare services to patients. The Myant Virtual Clinic is a program that uses bio-sensing textiles to help patients monitor their health from home, and easily communicate with their doctor remotely. In December of 2021, Myant announced its partnership with PACE Cardiology, and a large-scale study designed to assess the viability of this approach in monitoring patients suffering from atrial fibrillation.

Bio-sensing textiles are made from a thin layer of knitted fabrics that measure the body’s core temperature, heart rate, ECG, and activity. Using the patient’s phone, this data is securely sent to the Myant cloud, where it can be analysed by a medical professional. This approach can help identify issues even if there are no symptoms present —often saving time and grief for both the patient and the healthcare provider.

“The goal of the partnership is to scale this technology to encourage regular ECG screening and improve the experience for PACE patients,” explained Dr. Khaykin. By leveraging Skiin bio-sensing garments and the Myant Virtual Clinic, PACE is able to monitor patients between their appointments.

PACE Cardiology will be making the Myant Virtual Clinic and Skiin bio-sensing garments available for purchase to its patient base in the coming weeks. The $275 CAD Skiin Starter Kit includes two Skiin Chest Bands, one set of electronics, access to the Skiin Connected Life App, and continuous connection to you, your loved ones, and healthcare practitioners who can support you on your wellness journey, PACE said.
