Safil, an Italy based worsted spinning company, with facilities in Italy and Bulgaria, has signed a screening agreement with bluesign technologies, a Swiss company leader in the textile sustainability certification, which will lead Safil to become bluesign system partner.

The Biella worsted spinning company will be the first in Italy and among the few in Europe to become the bluesign system partner.

Reducing the environmental impact

The bluesign system’s aim is to reduce the environmental impact on the entire textile chain. With its holistic approach, it provides an efficient solution for the entire production cycle: from the suppliers of chemicals and raw materials, continuing with spinners and fabric producers, closing the circle with clothing manufacturers and fashion brands.

Safil intends to uphold the principles and monitor the implementation of the bluesign system, also encouraging its suppliers to increase their efforts for better sustainability, both to consumers and the environment, in whole textile sector.

From years to yarns

This year the company celebrated its 60 years in business, by opening its archives for the occasion, transforming memories and future plans into an original themed-display and a publication presented to buyers and visitors.

The From years to yarns theme summarises 60 years of the Italian company’s history. Founded in 1954 in Biella by Fernando Savio, Safil is a company which managed to overcome downturns in the sector through constantly offering innovative yarns, technological modernisation and judicious acquisitions.
