The Taiwan Excellence Functional Fabric Online Press Conference showcased the latest technologies in functional fibres and eco-friendly solutions yesterday. Hosted by the Taiwan External Trade Development Council (TAITRA), the event featured presentations from five of Taiwan’s leading functional fabrics companies – including Singtex Industrial Co., Ltd., Sun Own Industrial Co., Ltd. (ATUNAS), Asiatic Fiber Corporation, Toung Loong Textile MFG. CO., LTD and BenQ Materials Corporation.

“Taiwan’s fabric industry has taken on an important role in the global market over the past 20 years. Taiwan’s fabric manufacturers now continue to meet the needs for different applications and in doing so have established a mature cooperative partnership with world-famous brands. In fact, for many years, soccer players at the FIFA World Cup have worn team jerseys made with fabrics produced by Taiwanese textiles companies. We believe that Taiwanese fabric businesses are the ideal partners for other nations,” commented Deputy Director General, Guann-Jyh Lee.

“The COVID-19 pandemic has boosted worldwide demand for high quality products, and Taiwanese enterprises have answered the call with excellent and reliable solutions as well as innovations that feature top IoT technologies. Our award-winning functional fabric enterprises here today provide the world with excellent products in several fields, including sports and leisure, as well as medical care and epidemic prevention,” added TAITRA President and CEO, Walter Yeh.

Presenters at the conference included:

Singtex Industrial Co., Ltd., one of Taiwan’s most prominent fabric manufacturers, who have been working closely with brands such as Patagonia, L. L. Bean, Hugo Boss, The North Face, Schoffel, Timberland and Vaude among others. The company introduced its Airmem Colorshell coffee bio-jacket to the audience. The jacket uses microporous membrane technology that is not only windproof, waterproof, and oil repellent but also provides excellent moisture vapour permeability to keep the wearer dry and warm.

Sun Own Industrial Co., Ltd. (ATUNAS), a leading sporting goods manufacturer with 45 years of experience, presented its two collections, including its Supercooling Shirt Collection that is UPF50+ resistant and can block 70% of infrared and harmful UV Rays and its Wearable Skincare Products: Pretty Skin Light Collection, iRoller and DIY Assemble Foam Roller

Toung Loong Textile Mfg. Co., Ltd, a professional athleisure textured yarn supplier in Taiwan, which has close partnerships with many world-class sports brands, demonstrated its Stretch/Recovery yarn

BenQ Materials Corporation, the world’s No.4 polarizer manufacturer specializing in material science, introduced Xpore, its eco-sustainable, waterproof and breathable Textile Technology

The winners of the Taiwan Excellence Award must demonstrate excellence in 4 areas: R&D, design, quality, and marketing. In other words, they are the best innovations Taiwan has to offer. With these innovations, Taiwan Excellence would like to convey this message: “Taiwan can help. Taiwan is helping. We are with you to fight COVID-19 together.”

Although the coronavirus has badly affected the global economy, Taiwan's functional textile industry is still actively responding to technology and fashion trends. Being environmentally friendly, the industry is producing a variety of functional fabrics, ready-to-wear and smart textiles, and developing brands to create greater business opportunities with partners in the global textile industry.

Taiwan Excellence

The symbol of Taiwan Excellence was established in 1992 by Taiwan’s Ministry of Economic Affairs and the Taiwan Excellence Selection was launched the following year. The selection is based on the specific criteria of R&D, quality, design, and marketing. Products that have been selected for the Taiwan Excellence Awards serve as exemplars of domestic industries and are promoted by the government in the international market in an effort to shape the creative image of Taiwanese businesses. This year marks the 28th selection, making the Taiwan Excellence symbol a prestigious distinction for enterprises in Taiwan to strive for and be recognized by, as it is highly thought of around the world.
