Teijin Frontier Co., Ltd. has developed a new high-performance polyester fabric that successfully replicates the refined appearance and texture of natural fibres while offering advanced comfort and functionality. The innovation features yarns of random thickness, creating a visually appealing and densely textured material ideal for casual and fashion apparel.

The breakthrough fabric is manufactured from a proprietary four-lobed, flat cross-section yarn with random thicknesses, developed using Teijin Frontier’s in-house spinning technology. This distinctive structure mimics the irregularities found in natural fibres, providing a sophisticated aesthetic combined with functional benefits such as cool touch, anti-stickiness, quick-drying properties, opacity and ultraviolet protection.

In line with the company’s circularity goals, the fabric, can be either knitted or woven, is made entirely from recycled polyester. It is designed to meet growing consumer demand for sustainable yet high-performing textiles that do not compromise on style or comfort. Teijin Frontier plans to launch the material for commercial use in the spring/summer 2026 fashion season, targeting both casualwear and lifestyle apparel markets.

The fabric’s technical performance includes moisture-wicking through capillary action, a cool touch effect enabled by titanium oxide in the yarn, anti-stickiness due to surface irregularities, and UV blocking through a light-scattering structure. Special dyeing and finishing techniques further enhance its natural look and feel.

Sales of the fabric are scheduled to begin in fiscal year 2025, with Teijin Frontier aiming to distribute 250,000 metres by fiscal 2027.
