TIWC 2014 announces keynote speakers

Organisers of the 89th Textile Institute World Conference TIWC 2014 have announced the keynote speakers that will take part in the event that is set to take place from 2-6 November in Wuhan, China.

TIWC 2014 is a platform that gathers researchers, academics and the industries related to the areas of textiles, clothing and footwear. The conference is organised approximately every one and a half years by The Textile Institute, in various locations around the world such as in Sri Lanka, Hong Kong, England and Malaysia.

The Textile Institute collaborates with various organisations from different countries to host the conference. TIWC 2014 will be hosted by Wuhan Textile University, China.


The conference aims to provide a significant platform for industry and researchers around the world to meet, discuss, share and disseminate findings for future collaborations. This year the programme will feature keynote speeches from the following industry experts:

Eamonn Brady is a Sales Director at Picanol China.  Picanol NV, headquartered in Ieper, Belgium, has been a market leader in weaving machine solutions since it was founded in 1936.  Picanol's proven performance on both gripper and airjet technologies has resulted in an installed base of over 150,000 machines in China. 

Professor Ron Postle has a Personal Chair in Textile Physics at the University of New South Wales in Sydney, Australia.  He has published over 400 papers and supervised 70 PhD graduates in textile physics and engineering, especially structural mechanics of fibres, apparel and technical textile materials. 

QIU Yafu is a Chairman of the Shandong Ruyi Group, one of the top ten textile and clothing enterprises in China. The Ruyi Group is well known for its high quality wool and cotton textile products and its focus on continuing and open innovation. The group also owns the largest cotton production field in Australia, the Cubbie Station.

Nathan Sivagananathan is a Chief Growth Officer, MAS Holdings. Prior to his appointment as CGO, Nathan was the CEO - MAS Design, the MAS design and development centre, which he helped establish and lead for over 10 years.

Sun Ruizhe is the Vice President of China National Textile & Apparel Council (CNTAC), and also serves as Chairman of China Textile Engineering Society, President of China Textile Enterprise Association, Deputy Director of China Textile & Garment Brand Strategy Promotion Committee and Director-General of Office for Corporate Social Responsibility under China National Textile & Apparel Council. His major research areas include management of textile science and technology, textile product development, industrial policy, industrial statistical analysis and planning, corporate social responsibility, and branding.

 Professor Gordon Wallace is currently the Executive Research Director at the ARC Centre of Excellence for Electromaterials Science and Director of the Intelligent Polymer Research Institute. With more than 700 refereed publications, Professor Wallace has attracted some 17,000 citations and has an h-index of 61.

Professor YU Jianyong is an academician of the Chinese Engineering Acadamy, Deputy Chairman of the Chinese Textile Engineering Society, as well as Vice President of Donghua University. Professor Yu has extensive teaching and research experience in textile materials, especially in the fields of natural fibres, man-made fibres, novel structures and technical textiles.
