Unifi, Inc. (NYSE: UFI) continues to evolve and expand its Repreve product offering with the introduction of Repreve nylon 6,6 at the Outdoor Retailer Summer Market 2008. Repreve nylon, like Repreve polyester, is a first quality yarn made from 100% recycled materials.

Unifi has partnered with Burlington Worldwide, a division of International Textile Group, Inc. (ITG) and United Knitting in the development of new woven and knit fabrics using Repreve nylon. ITG will feature Repreve nylon under the GENERATIONS Collection, targeting technical sportswear. United Knitting will introduce Repreve nylon in a series of new eco-friendly knit fabrics for activewear.

“Our partnership with Unifi will allow ITG to offer eco-friendly, high- performance fabrics that exceed our customers' performance expectations," said Dale Arnold, executive vice president for ITG. “Unifi is the leader in synthetic yarn development in the U.S. and our partnership will allow us to transfer products and technology globally.”

“United Knitting is committed to growing our line of sustainable products,” said Jerry Miller, president and COO for United Knitting. “Repreve nylon will allow us to further expand our environmental product offering to satisfy our customers’ needs in providing innovative fabrics with recycled content.”

“Repreve has been a product of evolution for Unifi and the introduction of Repreve nylon further represents our commitment in offering sustainable textile solutions, said Roger Berrier, executive vice president for Unifi. United Knitting and ITG have been great development partners and we are excited to commercialize this new product with them. “

The production of the Repreve offsets the need to produce virgin polyester and nylon, conserving petroleum–based resources. On average, current annual production of Repreve is estimated to conserve the equivalent of 6 million gallons of gasoline.
