Euratex, the European Apparel and Textile Confederation, has attended a high-level lunch organised by Walpole, the British Luxury association, where the action plan for implementation of the European strategy for fashion and high-end industries by 2020 was discussed.
The plan was presented by European Commission Vice-President Antonio Tajani at the event, attended by key stakeholders and sectors of the fashion and high-end industries.
After the great response to its first denim collection for Spring/Summer 2014 leading flat knitting machine manufacturer Stoll took up the challenge of creating a collection of wintery denim knits for Autumn/Winter 2014/15 and the result is the inspiring Stoll Winter Denim Trend Collection 14/15, which the company has just launched.
“The novelty of the current collection is based on extraordinary pattern techniques but also the combination of seasonal mixed materials, merino wool connects in this context with indigo-dyed cotton,” says Jörg Hartmann, Head of Fashion & Technology at Stoll.

Innovations such as Lycra Fusion fibre, Lycra 3D hosiery, Lycra Beauty hosiery, Lycra Energy socks, Lycra Soft Comfort fibre, and Lycra SPORT socks, are all perfect for the 2014-2015 collections, Invista legwear experts believe. Around 10,000 companies from over 90 countries and at all levels of the value-creation chain currently participate in Oeko-Tex Standard 100 product certification.
Nottingham Trent University fashion design student Mel Uskuri, 21, from Cannock, Staffordshire, has a won a £3,000 industry prize as part of the first-ever fashion scholarship awarded by Derbyshire fashion house and knitwear manufacturer David Nieper.
According to David Nieper, with the UK fashion industry facing a shortage of design for manufacturing skills, it is working with Nottingham Trent University’s School of Art & Design to up-skill the next generation of designers, pattern-cutters and dressmakers with the knowledge and industry experience employers look for.
North America’s largest apparel fabrics show Texworld USA presents its complimentary three-day seminar programme, presented by Lenzing Innovation, which will offer presentations ranging from sourcing, trends to sustainability and fibres.
The event will be taking place at the Javits Center, in New York, from 21-23 January 2014. This year's meeting of the OEKO-TEX General Managers took place in Lucerne, at the heart of Europe and Switzerland on 14 and 15 November to mark the establishment of the OEKO-TEX Secretariat 20 years ago this year in Switzerland. The OEKO-TEX Standard 100 has worked towards the effective exclusion of harmful substances from products at all processing levels of the textiles sector since 1992.

I honestly don't understand those people who hate fireworks: unlike Great Britain, where Guy Fawkes's night has gradually extended to New Years' eve, creating a long, firework season, in Italy you see pyrotechnic displays very sporadically, during fun fairs or religious celebrations. The first records of fireworks date back to 7th century China, and sometimes I wonder what they may have looked like back then, or how they were invented.
The 12th edition of Maredimoda, the trade fair for the beachwear and underwear fabrics and accessories, held from 5-7 November at Palais Des Festivals in Cannes, has closed with a 3% rise in visitors, validating the lively recovery of the European beachwear and underwear sectors.
The highest number of visitors were from Italy, France, Spain and Germany, while the most interesting performances in terms of an absolute rise in numbers, were from the United States, Russia and Turkey.
