The 8th session of Interfiliere Hong Kong has again proven to be the quality intimates and swimwear trade show to attend when looking for innovation and inspiration, according to organisers of the event that took place last week at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre.
The colourful and trend-inspired show was attended by 3200 visitors, 70% of which were decision makers. “At Interfiliere Hong Kong we meet a lot of clients from Hong Kong, China and Asia. Just before I start working on the next show for the Research Area at Pitti, I thought I’d do a review of one of my favourite S/S collections I saw at Pitti last January. Manifattura Igea always shows a very exciting range in their Lab collection, offering very competitive prices and great quality. I have used their yarns very often whilst I was studying at college and working for the Research Area, Sophie (50% viscose and 50% acrylic) is one of my favourite, a very versatile yarn with a fluid handle. I also like their range of matte viscose yarns and Rosanna, another classic viscose in their Lab range.
Filo, held in Milan March 5-6th showed its paces in distilling trends directions for AW 2015/16 and SS 2015, reflecting the blurring of seasons with the gradual transition of colours and textures from one to another. Fabric designers and mills come to Filo to source particular effects and fibres and to talk about business. The bulk of Filo visitors are European and the first day was quieter than usual, not helped by a Milan public transport strike. The second was rather more busy and exhibitors explained they had seen their regular customers and also others coming to source particular yarns or novelties. The official opening talked of a much more positive environment in Italy and many European countries.
Van de Velde, the producer of luxury lingerie, has observed a continuing slowdown in EBIDTA that amounted to EUR 48.7 million compared with EUR 48.8 million in 2012.
There was, however, an upswing in earnings in the second half of 2013, where both EBIDTA and turnover losses of the first half of the year have been recovered, following a two-year set-back in growth for the company. “Thank to a stronger second half, all efforts of the company and its staff resulted for full year 2013 in a minimal turnover growth, though without EBIDTA growth,” commented Lucas Laureys, Chairman of the Board of Directors.
Despite a slowdown in growth since the second half of 2011, the company plans to continue to follow the original strategic line in order to generate profits by bringing the lingerie to market via the most appropriate distribution channels.

Spring has finally arrived in the UK, after a very warm weekend with plenty of sunshine and blue skies I thought I’d let the new season bring its magic to this blog as well. A few days ago I received Zegna Baruffa’s colour trends for S/S 2015, a very comprehensive folder with the company’s forecast and a collection of small samples in their beautiful yarns. The colour stories revolve around five different themes: Summertime, L’Apres-Midi d’un Faune, In the Still of The Night, Aura and Impression-Expression.
