PITTI FILATI, the world’s unique trend observatory

Pitti Immagine Filati, the key international event showcasing yarns for the knitting industry. It is a research lab and an observatory that looks out onto the new global lifestyle trends. Pitti Filati presents world-scale excellence in yarns to its audience of international buyers from all over the world, including designers and representatives from the top style bureaus for the biggest names in fashion who come to Florence looking for new creative ideas. This edition of Pitti Filati will feature previews of yarns for the 2012 spring-summer season.

SENSO, the title-theme of this edition’s Spazio Ricerca

Both the structure and layout of the Spazio Ricerca and the Fashion at Work area - located on the Lower Level of the Main Pavilion - where all creativity begins, are growing and developing. An experimental observatory/lab where trends are analyzed and launched, the Spazio Ricerca at Pitti Filati 68 will be presenting SENSO: a journey through the senses and their potential revealing the ideas and concepts around us that are just waiting to be understood in new ways. Like short films, 25 new stimuli related to our senses of sight, hearing, touch, taste and smell will transpose bits of our collective and daily experiences into something new and unique. Staged by fashion designer Angelo Figus, and the artistic director and knitwear expert Nicola Miller.  The layout project is by architect Alessandro Moradei.

PITTI CITY is the theme for January 2011

“Welcome to Pitti City”: visitors to the Fortezza in January will be greeted by a huge, colorful, pop-graphics billboard in the forecourt. This edition’s theme is Pitti City, a visual metaphor of the city as the perfect portrayal of contemporary fashions. The “stars” of the installation inside the Fortezza will be colorful, ironic, three-dimensional popup versions of the logos of the Pitti Filati sections, along with the architecture of the city of Florence and the typical skyline of a contemporary metropolis. Pitti City is also the image of the relationship between the fair and the city: Pitti City is Florence, and during the fairs Florence is Pitti City – the international fulcrum of contemporary fashions and lifestyle trends. The Pitti City graphics were created by Studio Camuffo, one of the most creative graphic arts factories in Italy today.

THE FOURTH EDITION OF PRIMA – Moda Tessuto, together with Pitti Filati

PRIMA – Moda Tessuto – now in its fourth edition – is the fair produced by the PratoTrade consortium in synergy with Pitti Immagine and an event that was immediately hailed by the international fashion community as a total innovation. PRIMA has a jump on the trade calendar presenting textile collections for the 2012 spring/summer since it is held together with Pitti Filati, from 26 to 28 January and, at this edition, is changing location, moving to Hall M in the Fortezza da Basso. The decision to hold the events together and in same place was made to present a more synergic, complete and uniform overview of fashion’s basic materials – textiles and yarns.

VINTAGE SELECTION N.17: an across-the-board presentation of vintage culture

Vintage Selection will be back at the Stazione Leopolda in Florence from 26 to 30 January 2011. Vintage Selection is the only fair featuring vintage clothing, accessories and design objects. Held concomitantly with an event such as Pitti Filati aimed at designers and style bureaus from major international fashion houses, it is the not-to-miss event for the huge audience of collectors and enthusiasts. Vintage Selection is a research lab that looks to the fashions of the past, and it’s also a rich archive that today’s designers turn to for new ideas.

And this, the 17th edition, Vintage Selection will have an even broader scope and meaning, focusing on contemporary “vintage culture”, its several aspects and the way it crosses all boundaries with a series of special events from the exhibition dedicated to an historical archive to  a special guest, to the conferences and workshops on the theme of vintage as the privileged witness of past decades and a factor of contemporary creativity.

The special events planned at the Fortezza da Basso include:
