Green Business Practices and Upcoming Trends Highlight Texworld USA’s Lenzing Innovation Botanic Symposium, Texworld USA, Javits Convention Center, 14 - 16 July 2008

Green business practices in textiles and 2009/2010 fashion trends will be the focus for the fifth edition of Texworld USA’s Lenzing Innovation-sponsored Botanic Symposium, July 14-16, at New York City’s Javits Convention Center.

“The implications of the green movement in the fashion and textile industries continue to be an issue of great interest,” said Tricia Carey, of Lenzing Fibers. “Each seminar will present new, relevant eco-topics or trend forecasting to participants.”

Lenzing Innovation will bring together the world’s foremost authorities on eco-textiles and innovation, a panel to discuss the other eco-fibers existing besides organic cotton, and a video presentation from the University of Ultrecht in the Netherlands assessing the environmental impacts of man-made cellulose fibers.

Green Business Track

Lenzing’s Botanic Symposium will be moderated by Karla Magruder, president of Fabrikology, a textile consulting firm, and will include a selection of seminars providing the perspective of companies successfully manufacturing eco-fabrics.

The first seminar of the symposium will be led by President and Founder of Anerca, Ellen Karp. Entitled “LOHAS Consumers and Sustainable Apparel: ‘I eat it, I clean with it – now do I have to wear it too?,’” Karp will provide an overview of the attitudes and behaviors that define LOHAS (Lifestyles of Health and Sustainability) consumerism. Anerca is a consumer insight company specializing in this vital consumer segment.

J. Ottman Consulting, Inc.’s President, Jacquelyn Ottman, will use her personal business experiences to aid in defining the profile of the green customer and will also share green marketing strategies. Ottman’s firm specializes in eco-innovation and green marketing.

There will be two panels to discuss green-related topics. “Beyond Organic Cotton” will investigate a selection of eco-fibers, showing that cotton is not the only one. Panelists are Michael Kininmonth, sustainable project manager for Lenzing AG, a producer of cellulose fiber; Ria Stern, global marketing director of Hyosung, an elastane producer of Creora®; and Jim Ciccone, marketing director of Wellman Inc., a recycled polyester fiber manufacturer.

The second panel, “Green From Start to Finish,” will be moderated by Magruder. Four panelists will look beyond eco-fibers themselves, and into the dyeing, finishing and trimming processes and how these contribute to making garments ecologically friendly. Panelists will be Kininmonth; Tim Williams, regional business development manager of Dystar, a corporation that provides products and services for the textile and leather industries; and Brian Powell, marketing director of YKK, a zipper manufacturer.

Trend Track – Fall/Winter 2009-2010

Carol Meek, president of Color Portfolio, will discuss the direction men’s and women’s fashion trends are headed for in the fall and winter of 2009-2010. She will present highlights of fabrics, prints, silhouettes and colors for the new season, and will demonstrate how to update a classical season with unconventional re-mixes. Color Portfolio provides marketing services for the fiber, yarn, textile, apparel and retail industries.

An opportunity to win one free season of color will be given by Design Options. This trend and color forecasting company’s Vice President, Fran Sude, will review the crossover of color and trend in the Young Missy, Junior Contemporary, Young Men’s and Home Fashion industries in her session, “Fall/Winter 2009, Color and Lifestyle Trends, the West Coast Approach.”

Vera Vandenbosch of the Pantone Color Institute, a color research and information center, will host “’Imagine’ Color Trends for Fall/Winter 2009-2010.” She will encourage her audience to think outside of the box for the upcoming season and discover new colors that will be reactive, communicative and expressive to increase consumer interest.

An international business platform offering a wide array of highly-innovative and creative fabrics, Texworld USA provides designers and buyers access to exquisitely designed, high-quality fabrics made globally, and also showcases the latest trends.

Lenzing Innovation continues to partner with Messe Frankfurt for the fifth edition of Texworld USA. The show is an expansion of their successful fabrics trade fair, Innovation Asia (formerly TENCEL New York Inc.). The Lenzing Innovation Pavilion will again be a featured aspect of the event, showcasing Lenzing customers and their products.
