Cariaggi Fine Yarns Collection, a leading manufacturer of high-end yarns from Italy’s Marche region, continues with its strategy of investing in technology with two important new projects - Filato Digitale and the eBiz initiative.

The aim of the Filato Digitale (Digital Yarn) project developed in collaboration with Shima Seiki Italia is to make digital colour charts available to Cariaggi clients who use the Shima system. An Epson scanner scans the yarn – using Proper Gauge, a tool developed by Shima Seiki – and the software then creates the different colour variations. The scans produced by Shima are scrupulously checked by Cariaggi technical staff in order to ensure that the original colours have been reproduced as faithfully as possible.

Filato Digitale will therefore allow Cariaggi to provide clients with more representative colour charts for yarns simply, promptly and quickly.

eBiz, on the other hand, is a European initiative aimed at creating a common digital language for companies in the textile and clothing supply chain, so that communications can be optimally integrated and the quantity of data exchanged with suppliers and clients can be increased without having to update the company’s IT systems each time.

Cariaggi has signed up to eBiz so that it can notify its suppliers of developments in production planning in real time, thereby reducing organisational costs and errors.

According to the company, the introduction of eBiz has meant that production orders are no longer sent by fax and has reduced the use of telephone and emails for amendments in production planning with sub-contractors by 95%.

The reduction in organisational costs is estimated to save production planning and programming staff approximately 30% of their time. eBiz has also helped Cariaggi eliminate clerical errors when recording data in partners’ systems, it has helped reduce late deliveries by 95% and it has helped increase productivity in planning management and production control by approximately 25%.
