Federal Engineering launched two new computerized flat knitting machines at ITMA 2011 in Barcelona - the DR252CSA and DR152AITM World Group, a well known international textile machinery trading company, has partnered with Hong Kong based Federal Engineering to bring the Chinese built Darun brand of computerized flat knitting machines to international markets.

Montreal headquartered ITM World Group has traded in both new and used knitting machines since the late 1950s and has facilities in New York, Barcelona, Hong Kong and China, as well as Montreal. Federal Engineering has its Darun brand machines manufactured by Guangdong Computerized Machine Co Ltd, in the Chinese textile town of Dongguang City in Guangdong Province.

ITM World Group's global presence and contacts are expected to help Federal Engineering access new markets outside of China. At the recent ITMA 2011 in Barcelona Federal Engineering showed two inexpensive computerized flat knitting machines, one for fully-fashioned knitwear production and one for producing trimmings (ribs, borders, cuffs etc.).

Speaking to Knitting Industry in Barcelona, ITM World Group proprietor Zvi Grinbaum said: "Although we do not manufacture machines, ITM World Group has always sold both new and used knitting machinery. We are looking forward to taking these products to market with our manufacturing partners."

The DR252CSA is a double system single carriage individual needle selection machine available in three different knitting widths - 45, 52 and 56 inches. The machine is available in gauges 5-16 and a multi gauge 3.5-7 gauge is also available. The model on show at ITMA was in 12 gauge and simultaneous stitch transfer, front or back, independent of carriage direction is possible.

The DR252CSA, which has a maximum knitting speed of 1.2 m/s, is fitted with a set-up comb together with gripper and cutter for the manufacture of individually knitted body and sleeve panels. Sixteen yarn carriers (2x8) are fitted on four double sided yarn carrier rails and intarsia carriers are available as an option.

Stitch density, racking (2 inch), sinker system and main takedown roller are all controlled by step motors and the machine is fitted with a multi language LCD touch screen for ease of operation.  Up to 250 machines can be connected to a network via high speed Ethernet.

DR152A single system machine

The DR152A, shown at ITMA in 14 gauge,  is an interesting low budget single head single system machine available in an unusually wide range of gauges - 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 12, 14, 15 and 16.

The machine also comes in two knitting widths - 44 and 52 inches. Another attraction for buyers here is the 1.2 m/s maximum knitting speed and individual needle selection for knit, tuck, miss and transfer which allows jacquard, structured and shaped knitting.

Again knitting speed, racking, stitch density and takedown roller are all controlled by servo motor. Simultaneous stitch transfer, front or back, independent of carriage direction is also possible.

The DR152A comes as standard with 2x6 yarn carriers fitted on three double sided yarn carrier rails. Like the DR252CSA, the machine is fitted with a multi language LCD touch screen for ease of operation and up to 250 machines can be connected to a network via high speed Ethernet.

"The DR152A in particular attracted a lot of attention at ITMA. Buyers are interested in it as a low budget versatile trimming machine or as a hand flat replacement for basic knitwear," Zvi Grinbaum summarized.
