Each year TripAdvisor recognises travellers’ favourite attractions around the world, based on reviews and ratings collected over the past year, which has placed the museum in the top 10% attractions worldwide.

The Framework Knitters Museum, which is located in Ruddington, Nottingham, United Kingdom, is one of the few places left where visitors can find the working and living conditions of the framework knitting industry.

The Framework Knitters Museum is a unique surviving example of a 19th century framework knitters’ yard, which has been lovingly restored as a living history museum. Visitors to the museum can discover how framework knitters and their families lived and worked in Victorian times – the sights, the sounds and even the smells.

The museum tells the 400-year history of framework knitting, from its role in the Industrial Revolution to the infamous Luddite riots of the 1800s, and how framework knitting gave birth to the Nottingham lace industry. It's a working museum, so visitors can see original knitting frames in action in the preserved frame shop.

Sarah Godfrey, creative and commercial manager at the museum, said: “We’re delighted to have won the Travellers’ Choice Awards, which wouldn’t have been possible without our employees, fantastic volunteers and wonderful customers.

“Over the past year we have worked hard to become a place that caters to different audiences, from the creative events and workshops – such as The Big Swap Shop – to the museum group tours and our Parker’s Yard café and shop, which is now open seven days a week.”

“To be recognised for this award is a true testament to everything we’re doing, and we’d like to thank everyone who has taken the time to visit us and leave positive reviews and feedback – it really means the world.”

The museum is open from Wednesday to Saturday between 11.00am-4.00pm and Sunday and Bank Holiday Mondays between 1.30pm-4.00pm.

Parker’s Yard is free to attend and open from Monday to Saturday, between 9.30am-4.00pm, 11.30am-4.00pm on Sunday and 11.00am-4.00pm on Bank Holiday Mondays.
