Bacteria thrive in warm, damp environments. Where these conditions are permitted, bacteria multiply exponentially and are easily transmitted. Health hazards are the result, sometimes serious. Bennett Safetywear’s range of Dermos® anti-bacterial products successfully confronts unwanted bacteria.

All Dermos® products utilise an advanced fibre containing silver ions that damage bacteria cell physiology and disturb enzymatic processes. This fibre ensures that all harmful bacteria quickly become denatured.

Test results prove how effective the fibre is against high-risk bacteria such as MRSA, E.Coli, S.Aureus and Salmonella. Indeed, within 1 hour of the test starting, the Salmonella count had been reduced by 98.66% against the control sample. Within 6 hours all bacteria tested (all the aforementioned) had been eradicated.

The unique and impressive aspect to the Dermos® range is that the anti-bacterial characteristic is inherent in the fibre. Other companies with competing products use coatings or insert disinfectants (mostly chlorine phenol) into fibres to give them anti-bacterial properties. Known to migrate (reach the skin), these methods often cause allergies, are soon washed out and also have detrimental effects on the environment. In contrast, the active ions in the fibre used in Bennett’s Dermos® products are homogenously spread and do not migrate. The chance of experiencing an allergic reaction is negligible and in addition Dermos® products are fully washable with no loss of effect.

The Dermos® range has been developed around a variety of different applications. For example there is a full-strength anti-bacterial glove (code: FK13/AB/KW) which is ideal for use in hospitals, where threats (and fears) of MRSA are a constant concern. This glove is also very well suited as a glove liner for industrial workers who suffer from allergic reactions when wearing protective rubber or latex gloves. Bacteria reduction rate

Also in the range is a glove that features additional thermal insulation and a perspiration management system (code: FKV13/AB2/KW). This is achieved by knitting the glove with a special combination of anti-bacterial fibre and Viloft®, a tubular viscose staple fibre which is an excellent insulator against heat and cold. This glove is a perfect liner for other protective gloves – it provides warmth, comfort and anti-bacterial protection.

Finally there are Dermos® cut-resistant, anti-bacterial sleeves and gloves (SKDY13/AB/38 and FKDY13/AB/KW respectively). By including Dyneema® in their construction, these items are given excellent cut-resistant properties and are also lint free. Both sleeve and glove are suited to the food industry in situations where sharp tools are used. Used in this fashion, they not only provide cut protection, but also prevent the build up and transmission of harmful bacteria such as salmonella.

With the Dermos® range added to the extensive Bennett portfolio, it is becoming increasingly apparent that Bennett Safetywear Limited is the primary source and choice in supplying all personal protective equipment requirements.

Over the last 70 years, Bennett Safetywear Limited has grown from a small leather merchant into a major designer and manufacturer of high performance safety gloves and specialised protective clothing for police, military, fire-fighting and industrial applications. With a firm commitment to continuous innovation and product development, and two UK-based manufacturing sites assessed to BS EN ISO: 9001:2000, Bennett Safetywear Limited is undoubtedly an international market leader in this domain.
