Amni Soul Eco, the fast-degrading yarn produced and distributed by Fulgar in Europe is a synthesis of science, fashion and low environmental impact, the Milan based company reports. Amni Soul Eco’s formula has been fine-tuned even further and now passes the test certifying its rapid degradation in marine environments without compromising on the product’s performance, Fulgar says.

“The pressing need to find a rapid response to the challenges posed by environmental sustainability as a response to humankind’s increasingly obvious impact on the climate and our planet in general means we have to take unprecedented action. Governments need to initiate far-sighted strategies while companies and consumers are called to adopt new approaches to production and consumption to minimise their impact on the eco-system,” Fulgar said in a statement today.

“One of the most complex issues is the emerging problem of microplastics. These miniscule fragments, measuring less than five millimetres, are the result of the degradation of the polymers in plastics. They are a growing presence in our seas, rivers and land, and have an impact on marine fauna and biodiversity.”

According to Fulgar, some companies are making a difference in this area, embracing the production of biodegradable materials that are chemically adapted to decompose more quickly when they arrive in the natural environment.

Fulgar, an Italian centre of excellence in the production of man-made yarns, has a long-standing commitment to sustainability. Amni Soul Eco, one of the most interesting products in its portfolio is a bio-degradable polyamide yarn launched in 2014 in collaboration with the Rhodia-Solvay Group. The innovative, high-performance product remains the flagship in Fulgar’s eco-nylon product range.

The latest tests carried out on the yarn have confirmed the effectiveness of its make-up. Microplastics released when garments made using Amni Soul Eco are washed, decompose twenty times more quickly in the marine environment than microplastics from conventional synthetic yarns, the company says. Decomposition in the soil also takes place rapidly, it adds. The material it is made from has also been developed to be sustainable during production by recycling water and through special greenhouse gas reduction treatments.

Amni Soul Eco technology is designed to give fabrics long-lasting performance and its bio-degradable component is said to have no negative impact on wear, quality and comfort. The polyamide’s high performance during the lifetime of the garment, providing lightness, exceptional breathability and excellent moisture management, resistance and colour yield, is guaranteed by Fulgar.

Prestigious brands like Herno, Colmar and Save the Duck have all chosen Amni Soul Eco yarn for their collections, proof of its reliability and versatility and its ability to redefine standards in the fashion world without sacrificing style and performance.

“The market for ecological yarns is constantly evolving and Fulgar has demonstrated a pioneering approach in this sector, responding to growing demand from client companies seeking valid solutions that will help them achieve their own sustainability objectives. This is a unique opportunity for the textile industry to make real reductions in its environmental impact,” concludes Fulgar.

Technical note: Bio-degradation performance is determined by ASTM D5511 and ASTM D6691 standard test methods. The yarn also conforms to Oeko-TEX STD 100 CLASS I Appendix 6 certification and guarantees data transparency for the yarn according to the LCA LCA (Life Cycle Assessment) model to identify and implement improvements that make the product and processes more sustainable.
